End of Week#2

I moved in such as it was the 19th. The moon watch begins.

The new beam is gorgeous!

Oh, and well, water travels down hill, so since the butterfly roof tips down from the fireplace Kenny winced and suggested we take a peek at the wall on the other side of the kitchen to see if the beam was okay. NOT!

Week #2

The mortar in the patio has deteriorated and has sunk, contributing to the water issue in the crawl space. So up came the rock on the patio, and the mortar down to the sound concrete.

Yup, there was a leak in the sink or dishwasher at one point.

Flooring by the back ktichen door.

A temporary wall holding up the ceiling and roof while Ben and Luke replace the rotted beam on the fireplace side of the kitchen.

Aha! Original kitchen flooring!

End of Week One

Closing in the crawl space.

Mold eradicated and the cause eliminated, time to replace the sheetrock in the basement/TV taping room.

Kitchen demolition.

Ahem! First surprise. Well, not really. Rotted bean due to failed roof in the past. Never dealt with. No time like the present!

Soffits all coming out.

From the laundry/pantry into the kitchen.

Framed in for the washer and dryer. (Plumber was here!)

Kitchen demo begins.

The first for sure sign of the trouble in the beam above.

The cabinets were constructed on site, so they couldn't be saved to be used in the pantry. Just one base cabinet that will be my laundry sink.

More Week One!

My Mom just about had a heart attack that I had the two Burford Hollies yanked from in front of the front steps. But after the shock, she realized that they were hiding the railing and totally obscured the architecture of the front porch.

In late winter I can cut the remaining Burfords way back and they will fill out and be maintainable below the windows to complement the house.

The Cerissas will be trimmed back shortly. One thing at a time...

Thar's steps in that thar retaining wall! Thank you Ben!

This is where the wall was between the two rooms back of the garage. We have heat and air, thanks to a very nice man who crawled into the crawl space.

Ben, Luke, Kenny. Hottest summer ever. Only about 94 degrees this day.

Ben and Luke started on the crawl space partition.

The mold issue was adressed first off. Both from outside with the regrading, and inside with removal of affected drywall, they spraying of it.

Laundry/pantry again. No wall makes a nice space! (Viewed from the kitchen.)

Master bathroom. Ugho. But not for long.

Getting that grout out.

Wood delivery is so exciting. This for the retaining wall.

Day 1: Renovations Are Underway!

Bright and early Monday morning the driveway is full of trucks. Which means work on the house is underway!

First up is the drainage issue in the back yard. Over time dirt has washed down from the rise to the house, directing water to the foundation. How do you spell "mold"? Surprisingly for a house this age, it's not a big deal, so easily addressed.

I am not crying over the destruction of the grass!

Meanwhile William is busy with the electric. He put up new outside lights (where's my picture?) and two lights like this in the soon-to-be heated and aired laundry room/pantry.

It's not going to look like this for long. That back wall will be busted out to make it deeper, all the way across the back of the garage.
